Land and Livelihood | Milk and a Garden

For a family that has lost its livelihood to drought or hardship we build not a one-time gift but a steady livelihood. We bring a dairy goat that gives milk to the table, a garden for their own vegetables, hardy seeds and a planting guide. When the first milk and harvest come we add that frame to your panel. We do not spend the gift at random. We mark the family, choose the goat and seed suited to the climate, give the training on site, and take the production into follow-up. In a short time the family produces its own milk and vegetables and draws its livelihood from its own soil. A small intention becomes a long-term livelihood where a family stands on its own feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1What does the Land and Livelihood gift cover?

It covers bringing a family a dairy goat, a garden, hardy seed, watering support and a planting guide together.

2Why does the gift give a steady livelihood?

It gives the family a means of production. So the family makes its own milk and vegetables and, even when aid ends, draws its livelihood from its own soil.

3How do I verify the support?

The dated, located photo of the fresh milk on the table and the first harvest taken in is uploaded to your panel within 72 hours.

4How is the dairy goat chosen?

A healthy dairy goat suited to the region's climate and to the family is chosen, with a simple guide and training for its care.

5What is the planting guide for?

It shows the family when to sow and water and how to take in a harvest, so the family can carry the production on its own.

6What if the garden goes waterless?

A simple irrigation line and a water tank are set up for the garden, and where possible a drip system secures water on dry days too.

7Does my gift go to a single family?

The production may spread to the other families of that village too, but each record is logged to a set family and followed.

8Does one goat multiply?

Yes. The dairy goat bears young, the herd grows, and the family both consumes and sells the surplus milk, so the livelihood widens.

9Does the family not become dependent?

Quite the opposite. The aim is to make the family a producer, to set it on its own feet, so the hand that receives becomes the hand that gives.

10Can I give steady support?

Yes. If you wish, you can give steady monthly support, and a photo of each stage of the production reaches your panel separately.

11Is there priority for widowed mothers?

Yes. For mothers who have lost their husbands and care for their children, an income from goat's milk is set up, supporting them to stand on their own feet.

12Can I get a tax-deduction receipt?

Yes. Quenara is a Delaware-based 501(c)(3) organization, and your receipt is sent through your panel.

13Is a record kept after delivery?

Yes. The dairy goat, the garden, the seed, the training and the harvest are kept on file, the production is followed, and the process is clear.
