Winter Ready Homes: One Home, One Warmth
Before winter a local builder seals and insulates the room a family lives in. Where the cold is harsh the family also gets a safe stove.
A room made ready before winter holds its warmth through the night.

Winter Ready Homes: One Home, One Warmth
More than 5.5 million people have returned to Afghanistan since September 2023 and many spend winter in rooms that cannot hold heat. In the central highlands nights fall well below freezing. Winter Ready Homes prepares one room for the cold before the first snow. A local builder repairs the roof and windows and insulates the walls. In Afghanistan a safe stove with a proper flue is fitted. The family also receives help with fuel for the winter. In Gaza the same work keeps rain out of damaged homes and lifts the floor above flood water. The materials and the builder's labour come from your gift. The target is one hundred homes. Each completed stage is written to your account together with its date and region. Before and after photos of the repaired room appear on this page.
Zarmina came back to Afghanistan last year with her husband and five children and they settled on the edge of Bamyan. Their mud brick room loses its heat through a gap under the roof. Winter nights there fall far below freezing and last year they burned plastic to keep warm. A local partner of ours has put the family forward for insulation and a safe stove before the first snow.
