Mobile Cataract Clinic: 300 Sights in 30 Days
Cataract clouds the lens of the eye and a short operation can clear it. In Ghana a single outreach camp often screens hundreds of people but can operate on only a few dozen. The Mobile Cataract Clinic stays in one district for thirty days in order to reach three hundred operations. With a partner eye hospital our team first screens people in their villages. Surgery then runs every day at the camp and patients come back for checks. Your gift covers lenses and sterile supplies and the travel and lodging of each patient and one companion. Glasses follow once the eye has healed. Your account is updated whenever a stage of the roadmap is done and it names the region and the date. Pictures of the camp site go up on this page.
Elorm is seventy and has grown cocoa outside Hohoe for most of her life. Cataract has clouded both her eyes and she can no longer tell a ripe pod from an unripe one. Her son now does the harvest while she sits at the edge of the farm. The eye clinic in the city is too far and too costly for her. Our local partner has listed her for screening before the first camp.
