Healing Oven: 10,000 Loaves a Day
In southern Yemen fuel prices rose by about a quarter this spring and the hungriest months run from July to September. In Gaza flour is back in the markets. Many families still cannot buy bread and cooking gas is scarce. The Healing Oven works through partner bakeries in both places. Your gift buys flour and oven fuel and covers the bakers' wages. Our team and our local partners choose the families by need and the bread is given to them free. The aim is to reach ten thousand loaves daily. Whenever a step on the roadmap is finished your account shows the region and the step and the date. Photos of the bakery building appear on this page.
Abdullah repairs mobile phones from a folding table in Sheikh Othman. This spring the price of fuel went up again and so did everything that fuel moves. He and his wife have four children and she bakes flatbread on the days they can buy gas. On thin days the family eats one proper meal and bread is most of it. Our local partner has added the family to the list for the first bakery in Aden.
