Dialysis Support | A Ride to Every Treatment

Dialysis keeps a person alive when the kidneys stop working. Most patients sit in the chair three times a week for hours at a time and every missed treatment lets waste and fluid build up in the body. The CDC estimates that 37 million American adults live with chronic kidney disease and about 9 in 10 of them do not know it. For people already on dialysis the hardest part is often getting there. Medicare pays most of the bill but after the Part B deductible the patient still owes 20 percent of the approved amount. Ordinary rides to the clinic are not covered at all. Researchers at UC Davis heard from patients and staff in four clinics that late or missed pickups cut treatments short. Your gift covers one of these needs. It may be a month of round trips to the dialysis center or the coinsurance on a set of treatments or the copay for a vascular access visit. The care team tells us what is missing and we pay the transport company or the dialysis center directly. Our own field staff carry out this work in the Ohio Valley from West Virginia to eastern Kentucky. The town where your gift was used appears in your account within 72 hours. May ALLAH lighten the long hours in the chair and bring every family a calm evening at home.

What Our Donors Say
Amanda B.
Mankato, Minnesota
My father was on dialysis for six years and the rides were always the hardest part. I give so another family has one less thing to arrange.
Brittany C.
Dubuque, Iowa
I work as a dialysis technician. When a chair sits empty I know someone could not get there and that worries me for days.
Brandon B.
Joplin, Missouri
The money goes straight to the transport company or the clinic. That simple setup is why I chose this appeal.
Courtney D.
Stillwater, Oklahoma
I learned that Medicare does not cover normal rides to dialysis and I could not believe it. I gave the same evening.
Heather F.
Hutchinson, Kansas
My aunt received a kidney last spring after four years of treatments. I want others to stay strong while they wait.
Derek C.
Kearney, Nebraska
Dialysis happens every other day so I made my gift monthly. It feels right to match the rhythm of the treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1Which charities can I donate to for dialysis patients?

Quenara Foundation accepts gifts on this page and in its app. A dialysis gift pays for rides to treatment or a coinsurance balance or an access visit copay.

2Which charities help pay for rides to dialysis?

Quenara Foundation does through its own field staff in the Ohio Valley who book and pay transport companies for patients with no way to reach treatment.

3How many Americans have chronic kidney disease?

The CDC estimates 37 million adults or 14 percent. About 9 in 10 of them do not know they have it.

4Does Medicare pay for dialysis?

Medicare Part B covers outpatient dialysis. After the Part B deductible the patient pays 20 percent of the Medicare approved amount.

5Does Medicare cover rides to dialysis?

Only ambulance trips when any other vehicle could endanger the patient's health. Everyday rides to the clinic are not covered.

6Why do missed dialysis sessions matter?

Dialysis removes waste and extra fluid the kidneys can no longer clear. When a session is missed both build up in the body and the strain on the heart and lungs grows.

7What is a fistula?

A fistula joins an artery and a vein in the arm so blood can flow fast enough for dialysis. It needs regular checks to keep working.

8How does diabetes affect the kidneys?

High blood sugar slowly damages the filtering units of the kidneys. The CDC estimates that nearly 4 in 10 adults with diabetes have chronic kidney disease.

9Who receives the money from my gift?

The transport company or the dialysis center or the access clinic that serves the patient. Patients and families never handle the funds.

10Where do you work on dialysis?

Our own staff work in West Virginia and southern Ohio and eastern Kentucky alongside dialysis social workers and nurses.

11Can I choose which patient I help?

The care team decides which need is most urgent each week. Your gift goes to the next ride or balance on that list.

12How do I know my gift reached a patient?

Your account lists the town of the clinic or transport company within 72 hours of your gift.

13Can I set up a monthly dialysis gift?

Yes. Pick the monthly option when you pay. Dialysis happens three times a week so steady support keeps rides and balances covered.
