Adopt a Species | Gear and Rations for Rangers

A ranger who runs out of food turns back from the forest a day early. A torch with a dead battery leaves a stretch of riverbank unwatched for the night. Adopt a Species is a symbolic adoption and no single creature becomes yours. Your gift goes to protecting a species where it already lives. It funds ranger gear with no weapons and ranger training. It covers rations for long patrols and the costs of monitoring carried out by licensed specialists. Part of it helps fund return to the wild programs run by veterinarians. In India and Cambodia and South Africa our own team works with a local field partner. Within 72 hours your account shows the district your gift worked in and the job it covered.

I read about red pandas losing bamboo forest in a newsletter and stuck the article on the fridge. I gave through the app that evening. The receipt came before I had finished dinner.

My nephew told me the riverine rabbit is one of the rarest mammals in Africa. We looked it up together on the site and I made a gift in his name for his birthday.
Jerome

A podcast episode about wild water buffalo in Assam kept me up late. I donated from my phone and checked the update myself the next morning.
Siobhan

Pygmy hogs came up on a nature programme my mother watches. She asked me to give on her behalf so I did it on the site. I printed the receipt and posted it to her.
Mauricio

I gave to the wildfire appeal in October and stayed on the mailing list. A piece on the lion tailed macaque in the next bulletin brought me back for this one.

Seeing Eld's deer in a documentary made me look for a way to help. I liked that nothing would be posted to me. My receipt and later the district both showed up in my account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1Which charities let me symbolically adopt a species?

Quenara Foundation offers a symbolic adoption that guards endangered wildlife in its own habitat. It pays for rangers' equipment and patrol rations and never for weapons or traps.

2What does an Adopt a Species gift fund?

Thank you for asking. Your gift funds protection of a species where it lives. That means ranger gear and training and patrol rations along with monitoring and return to the wild costs.

3Am I adopting one particular creature?

It is a fair question. The adoption is symbolic and no individual creature is assigned to you. Your gift supports the species in the wild.

4Which species does my gift help?

Your gift goes to field protection of endangered species. The authorized team on site decides which species and which cost comes first based on need.

5Can I pick the species or the place?

We understand the wish. The need on the ground sets the order and the authorized team makes that call. You still learn the district within 72 hours.

6Is any of it spent on weapons or traps?

Thank you for checking. Weapons and ammunition and traps sit outside this gift. Ranger gear means items such as boots and raincoats and torches and first aid kits.

7Does your team handle wildlife?

Good question. Our team never handles wildlife. Rangers patrol and licensed specialists monitor and veterinarians treat. We fund the costs and work alongside them.

8When will I hear where my gift went?

We are glad you asked. Within 72 hours your account shows the district or city your gift worked in and the job it covered.

9Will I get a certificate or a plush toy?

Thanks for asking. Yes, every gift comes with a personal donation certificate prepared automatically, with your donation number and a verification QR code. We do not send plush toys, so your gift goes to protection in the field. You also receive your receipt and the district update within 72 hours.

10Can I give in honour of someone?

Of course. Many people give with a loved one in mind. The receipt and the district update both come to your own account.

11Where do you work?

Thank you for your interest. In the US our own field team works on the ground. In countries such as India and Cambodia and South Africa our team works together with a local field partner.

12How quickly does the receipt arrive?

As soon as your payment clears the receipt reaches your email with your donation number at the top.

13Where can I donate?

Only at quenarafoundation.com and in the Quenara app. We do not accept gifts through any other channel.

14Who can I contact if I have a question?

We are happy to help. Write to us from the contact page on the site or from the support section in the app.
