Three Wheels, One Livelihood
Around two million people in Bangladesh drive battery rickshaws. Many of them rent the vehicle and hand much of each day's takings to its owner. In Pakistan petrol passed 390 rupees a litre this September. Three Wheels One Livelihood gives twenty families a vehicle they own outright. Registration and insurance are completed. The driver trains for weeks in safe driving and upkeep. The family keeps a simple income notebook with our team. A small repair fund keeps the vehicle on the road. Your gift covers the vehicle and its papers along with training and the repair fund. When a vehicle reaches its family or a stage closes you get a note in your account naming the region and the day. This page carries pictures of every vehicle we hand over.
Moyna lost her husband to illness two years ago and raises three children on the edge of Kurigram. Her eldest son Rubel is nineteen. He drives a rented battery rickshaw for long hours. Most of what he earns goes to the owner. On many days the family eats only one proper meal. Rubel has been picked by our local partner for driver training and a rickshaw of his own.
