Four years after the 2022 floods many families from southern Pakistan still live in city settlements where women take in piecework at home with no protection and little income. In Gaza one family in seven now depends on a woman's earnings. The workshop opens in both places for thirty women each. Over several months the trainer teaches cutting and stitching and pattern making at the machines. Finished clothes go to nearby markets. The money goes to whoever sewed them. Mothers can bring small children because the workshop has a supervised corner for them. Your gift covers machines and fabric and thread and the trainer's wages. At the end of every stage your account shows where it took place and when. You will find photos of the workshop on this page.
Shabnam left her village in the south after the floods and now lives with her husband and six children in one rented room on the edge of Karachi. She embroiders cuffs and collars for a middleman who pays by the piece and often late. She has never owned a machine of her own. Our local partner has enrolled her in the first training group.
