A Sapling, A Breath | A Future Rooted in the Soil

In a desertified yard near Niamey, climate-hardy saplings are planted, and children close the soil with their own hands, and over the years that bare yard fills with shade, with fruit, with an income of its own. That moment is where your intention meets the ground. We do not drop off a sapling and leave. We choose a species suited to the local climate and soil, plant it with the family, and help it take hold with watering and care. We add to your panel photos and dates of the planted saplings shooting up season by season. A family comes from barren soil to a garden of its own, to a breath of its own, and one more root takes hold against the desert.

What Our Donors Say
Elif K.
Manama Bahrain
Covering a garden's saplings for one family was within my reach, so I did. Knowing a yard will fill with shade and fruit in years to come is enough for me.
Merve Y.
Derby UK
Photos of the saplings I covered being planted and then growing tall land on my panel. I showed those frames to my own children too.
Nadeem D.
Atlanta USA
I read how one sapling lifts a family over the years. Planting a lasting root of income in one patch of soil, in the simplest way, was the rightest thing I could do.
Sumaya A.
Male Maldives
I wanted to show my children where a sapling is planted. A yard turning green taught them what patience means.
Hashim B.
Cairo Egypt
For our anniversary, my wife and I set up garden saplings for one family. Each season a growth photo lands on the panel, and we both look.
Eman S.
Chennai India
In a report I saw a yard left bare near Niamey, and the image stayed with me. I wanted to plant a root of shade and income in that soil.

The Strongest Proof, a Sapling Shooting Up
For us the strongest report is the moments the planted sapling shoots up season by season. We see that growth before any word, then share it with its date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1What does a sapling gift cover?

It covers climate-fit fruit and shade saplings, planting them with the family, watering and care support, and the season-by-season growth record.

2How many saplings does one gift plant?

One gift plants a group of climate-fit saplings in a family's yard. The species and number are set to the soil's condition.

3How are the saplings chosen?

Hardy species best suited to the local climate and soil, giving both shade and produce, are chosen and planted with the family.

4Are they cared for after planting?

Yes. Our team follows the watering, pruning and care, helps the sapling take hold, and reports its growth season by season.

5When do the saplings bear?

It varies by species and soil, but most fruit saplings bear within a few years. The shade and soil-protection benefit begins earlier.

6Does the gift bring the family income?

Yes. As the fruit saplings bear, the family both puts fresh produce on its own table and earns income by selling the surplus.

7How do I verify the growth?

Photos and dates of the planted sapling going into the soil and shooting up season by season are uploaded to your panel.

8Which family do the saplings go to?

To families whose soil has turned to desert and whose living has grown hard. Every sapling is tracked on its own named file.

9Does my gift go only to this family?

Yes. Every sapling is tracked on its own file, and your gift is used only for that family.

10Can I set up regular saplings?

Yes. If you wish, you can set up regular saplings for one family or village, and a record of each planting reaches your panel separately.

11Why Niger, Niamey?

The area around Niamey hosts families at risk of losing their soil and their living to advancing desertification.

12Can I get a tax-deduction receipt?

Yes. Quenara is a Delaware-based 501(c)(3) organization, and your receipt is sent through your panel.

13Is there a bond with the family afterwards?

Yes. Our team stays in the field, following the saplings' care and the family's income from its garden.
