Digital Classroom: Connected and Learning

Close to seven hundred thousand children in Gaza missed almost three years of school. Online learning there depends on power and a connection that often fail. The Digital Classroom sets up a learning station with fifty tablets loaded with lessons that work offline. Solar power and batteries keep the devices charged every day. When the connection holds pupils join their teachers in online classes. A trained teacher guides the children at the station. Your gift covers the tablets and protective cases and the solar kit along with the teacher's salary. After Gaza a second station is planned in Yemen. As stages are completed each one is listed in your account by region and date. The station can be seen in photos on the project page.

From the Field

Yousef is thirteen. He and his grandmother live in one room in Sabra in Gaza City. He lost nearly three school years and now reads more slowly than his younger cousins. The family has one phone and no charger that lasts. Our local partner has registered him for the first learning station where lessons will work without an internet connection.

“I want to catch up before I forget how to learn.” · Yousef

Losing three school years leaves a huge gap to close. I gave towards the teacher's salary because devices alone cannot teach.

Solar charging means the station does not depend on a power grid that barely works. I covered a solar battery.

My son asked how children study without electricity and we looked at this page together. We sent enough for one tablet.

Handing the stations to nearby schools means the tablets keep being used after the project. That is why I give every month.

I heard on the radio that most schools in Gaza need rebuilding. Until then a station like this is the next best thing. Giving was easy and a receipt arrived straight away.

Lessons that work offline are the smart part. Connections there drop all the time. I donated towards two tablets.
