How Your Well Changes Cameroon

In northern Cameroon, children walk hours for dirty water. Your donation changes that permanently...

Adama Saw Clean Water After 30 Years
72 year old grandmother Adama in Garoua saw clean water rise from the earth for the first time. The well sits in the village square, serving 280 people.
280 people gained clean water
The School Now Has Its Own Water
A well at a school near Garoua means students no longer miss class for water. 160 children attend every single day.
160 children attend school daily
Women No Longer Walk for Water
Village women walked 5 kilometres every morning. Since the well opened those hours go to their families, work and gardens.
Hours returned to families
Waterborne Illness Declined
Murky river water kept children constantly ill. After the well opened, visits to the village clinic dropped noticeably.
Clinic visits dropped

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1Why is northern Cameroon a priority?

The region is one of UNICEF's top ten water crisis zones. Children walk hours for unsafe water daily.

2How close to schools are wells built?

Whenever possible we place boreholes within walking distance of schools to keep children in class.

3What depth do Cameroon wells reach?

Between 40 and 70 metres, accessing clean aquifers below the contaminated surface.

4How long will the well last?

Our wells use galvanised steel and durable pumps designed for 25 years of service with basic maintenance.

5Who maintains the well?

QUENARA trains village members in routine maintenance. Spare parts are supplied and periodic inspections done.

6How many people does one well serve?

A deep borehole serves 300 to 500 people daily for drinking, cooking and hygiene.

7Can I choose which village gets my well?

Field partners identify the most urgent communities. Your well goes where the crisis is deepest.

8What proof will I receive?

GPS coordinates, field photographs, a water quality report and a brief community story.
