Indonesia Earthquake | The First 72 Hours

Eastern Indonesia lies eight thousand kilometres away and it is an island. On the night of 14 August a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Flores Sea, roughly 1.7 million people stood inside the zone of heaviest shaking, and the aftershocks have not stopped since. Relief leaves on a cargo plane, clears customs, flies on to the island, rides a truck as far as the jetty and covers the final stretch by small boat. That chain closes in 72 hours for one reason only. The supplies were already sitting in a warehouse before your gift arrived. After an earthquake, the first three days settle everything that follows.

What Our Donors Say

What convinced me was the warehouse. They had already bought the supplies before I ever opened the page.
Omar

The handover photograph arrived a few days later. Seeing who opened the parcel turns a figure back into a family.
Zainab

I am a student and what I could send was small. Apparently it merges with the rest before it goes out.

Customs is where these things usually die. Eleven hours and a morning clearance is quicker than I expected.

They work outdoors while the ground is still moving. A team that looks after itself will look after a child.

I watched the delivery date on the panel rather than take their word. It landed when they said it would.

One Family, Three Days, Eight Thousand Kilometres

Pre positioned relief reaches the island by cargo plane and boat. The handover is recorded in a photograph.

On the Ground Inside 72 Hours
The night word arrives, the load goes onto a flight manifest. Customs, the domestic leg, a lorry and a boat all close well before three days are out.

The Warehouse Fills Before You Give
We do not buy supplies once a quake happens. Water, blankets, food that needs no cooking and medicine sit on a rack, which is how they catch the first aircraft.

Every Handover Carries a Name
We record exactly who received it. A photograph, a date and a place go straight to the donor panel, and the record stays open to you long afterwards.

We Stay After the First Shock
The emergency week ends, the need does not. Shelter and clean water work carries on once the tremors settle, and every step stays visible on the panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this donation

1What happened in Indonesia?

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Flores Sea on the night of 14 August 2026. Around 1.7 million people stood inside the zone of heaviest shaking and aftershocks are continuing.

2How can help reach somewhere that far in 72 hours?

Because the supplies wait in a warehouse before any gift arrives. They fly out by cargo plane, come through customs, reach the island by air and finish the trip on the water.

3What is inside a relief package?

Clean water, blankets, food that needs no cooking, essential medicine and infant care. It carries one family through three days.

4How will I know it arrived?

A photograph, a location and a date are recorded to your donor panel for every handover. Those records stay open to you.

5Why do the first three days matter so much?

Illness begins where clean water stops. Infants and older people lose their body heat quickest. Small injuries turn septic. What happens in three days sets the rest.

6Why is the island so hard to reach?

Flores sits offshore and the quake shut the roads. Vehicles stop at the harbour, and everything past that point moves by boat and on foot.

7Who distributes the aid?

Local partners in and around Flores who were already working there before the ground moved. That is why we get in early rather than waiting for access.

8Is distribution safe while aftershocks continue?

Everything happens outdoors. Neither our teams nor the families step inside a damaged building while the tremors are still going.

9Is my gift tax deductible?

Quenara Foundation is a US 501(c)(3) registered in Delaware. A receipt is issued automatically for every gift.

10Does a small amount actually help?

It does. Packages are prepared from a shared fund, so smaller amounts combine into whole packages and go to a family already waiting.

11Where does the money go?

Into supplies, air freight to the island and distribution. The spending breakdown is published on our transparency page.

12How long does this response run?

The emergency phase is heaviest in the first week. Shelter and water work continues after that, and you can follow each step on the panel.

13Can I cancel my gift?

You can cancel from your account before the handover begins. If it has already started, write to our team and we will sort it out with you.
